This invitation for prequalification follows the general procurement notice for this project that appeared in United Nations Development Business online version on 7 October 2004,United Nations Development Business Vol. 27 No. 642 of 16 November 2004 and in dgMarket.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works (MMPW) has received a grant from the World Bank Iraq Trust Fund towards thecost of the Upgrading of the Water Supply System in Al-Hussainiya City, Baghdad Governorate, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds of this grant to payments under the contract for the Supply and Installation of a Water Treatment Plant of a capacity of 1,000 m3/hr near Al-Shaoora Village. MMPW intends to prequalify contractors and/or firms for the supply and installation of a water treatment plant of a total capacity of 1,000 m3/hr to be located near Al-Shaoora Village. Proposed plant will treat the raw water to be collected from Al-Khalis Canal 14 kms to the northof the proposed location and will provide drinking water to Al-Hussainiya and Al-Zahra'a Cities and surrounding villages. The project consists of the construction of a compound of a total area of about 14,000 m2 provided with headworks, tanks and auxiliary buildings. Contractors will have to supply, install and test different size of pipes, valves,pumps, water meters, equipment for measuring water quality, dosing equipment, etc. The project comprise also auxiliary buildings and facilities: guard house, plant operator accommodations, workshop, main treated water pump station building, administration building, telemetry SCADA system, water analysis laboratory, electrical substation building and standby diesel generators. Plant compound will be provided with all utilities such as potable water, sewerage network, telecommunication network and storm water drainage system. The plant will comprise machine and process equipment and facilities: chemical rooms, rapid mixer, 2 trains of 500 m3/hr each califlocculators of 26 m diameter, complete set of gravity filtration including backwash equipment, disinfection system, underground reinforced concrete treated water storage reservoir of 2,500 m3 capacity and a pump station that will be provided with 3 pumps (2 operating and one standby) of a capacity of 600 m3/hr each. It is expected that invitations for bid will be made in May 2006.

Prequalification will be conducted through prequalification procedures specified in the World Bank's Guidelines and is open to all bidders from eligible source countries, as defined in the guidelines.

Interested eligible applicants may obtain further information from and inspect the prequalification document at the Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works (address below) from 0800 to 1600 hours Baghdad local time. A complete set of the prequalification document in English may be purchased by interested applicants (a) on the submission of a written applicationto the address below and upon payment of a nonrefundable fee of US$ 100. The method of payment will be cash or certified check issued to theStrategic Management Office of the Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works (MMPW). The document will be sent by courier or can be collected in person at the address shown below, starting from 5 March 2006.

Applications for prequalification should be submitted in sealed envelopes, delivered to the address below by 17 April 2006, and be clearly marked "Application to Prequalify for Supply and Installation of Water Treatment Plant of a Capacity of 1,000 m3/hr Near Al-Shaoora Village."
