    ComentarSince 2007, 39 companies have bought geological information. Sales revenue from that amounted to UGX 132,413,590 (an equivalent ofUS$ 58,000 at current exchange rate). Some of the biggest investors in mining were among them, such as Anglo Gold Ashanti, RioTintoand other key players in the African mining sector such as African Minerals, MS Randgold Resources and AUC Mining.

    ComentarSEU established & staff recruited to be mainstreamed in DGSM structure as in the design of the Institutional Model of DGSM.Institutional Review completed & Cabinet Paper is prepared by MEMD and will be tabled for ratification to Parliament andsubsequently submitted to the Ministry of Public Service for implementation.Achieved in principle, but may be sustainability at risk. SMMRP established an Environmental and Social Unit (SEU) under DGSM tomanage related issues in liaison with National Environment and Management authority (NEMA). Three (3) persons were recruited andtrained together with other geoscientists in various areas of environment and social issues. Equipment and tools for baselinestudies andmonitoring environment have been procured and the unit routinely carries out sensitization of miners and communities onenvironment,social, health and safety issues related to mining activities. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development hasproposed a structure that will mainstream the SEU under DGSM and a permanent staff member has been assigned as head of the SEU.However, by the end ofthe project the staff and activities of the unit that have been funded by the project will come to halt. TheMinistry of Public Service has to approve the budget in order to mainstream the SEU into the regular civil service. The requestwill be included in a petition to Parliament. If considered favorably, a Certificate of Payment can be issued by Cabinet to allowpayments by the Treasury. Thedecision is expected for January 2012.
